Small Ship Adventures Are Hot for Families, Profitable for Agents

Wednesday, November 2, 2011

More and more families are booking high-end cruises on small adventure ships and river ships.

After the economy tanked, we're seeing more interest in family travel, multi-generational travel and so forth. People are valuing family time – more than just parents or grandparents going themselves on a cruise.

Abercrombie & Kent, for one, has 30 kids booked among the 200 passengers on its Antarctica holiday cruise on French-flagged Le Boreal this year – and at fares of $15,296 for adults and 50% off for kids ages seven to 18.

An A&K spokeswoman said the operator has found multi-generational travel – with grandparents bringing their kids and grandkids – is now twice as likely to sell as other inquiries.
